The Cycle of Abuse

Domestic violence often follows a pattern known as the "cycle of abuse," which can make it harder for victims to leave. This cycle involves:

Tension Building: The abuser becomes increasingly irritable, and minor disagreements start to escalate.

Incident: An episode of abuse occurs—physical, emotional, or otherwise.

Reconciliation: The abuser may apologize, make excuses, or promise it will never happen again.

Calm (Honeymoon Phase): For a time, things seem to go back to normal, giving the victim hope that the abuse is over.

Unfortunately, the cycle often repeats itself, with the periods of calm becoming shorter and the incidents more severe.
